Accessibility Project Update

September Update:

With Phase 1 trail  assessment nearing an end with just shy of 90% of trails tracked  by  our Garmin Aviator watch and elevation profiles created, we are  eyeing Phase 2.

In Phase 2, we manually assess the same trails for those details a Garmin watch  can't capture: Does the trail lean to one side or another? Are  there  roots or rocks that someone with a mobility aid would have to avoid? Are the trails wide enough for most mobility aids (allterrain  wheelchairs, etc.)

This phase takes a pair of assessors armed with a distance wheel and a level. About every 100 feet, we use the level to measure the angle (cross  slope)  of the trail tread, and along the way to the next 100 feet we mark any trail details that may impair disabled hikers on their way.
